SPEAKERS

Brandy Hennessy, RN, has been the trauma coordinator at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids for the past four years. She previously worked in the emergency department and on orthopedic and hematology oncology units. Hennessey has a passion for trauma, especially emergency preparedness. 

Sarah Pavelka has more than 20 years of experience leading and coaching in organizational performance and continuous improvement in business, industry, education and health care. Dr. Pavelka is the academic program director for the master of health care administration degree at Walden University. She is a subject-matter expert for the National Association for Healthcare, a 13-year faculty member for the master’s in health care administration program at Des Moines University, improvement faculty for the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative and director of the occupational therapy department for Pella Regional Health Center. Dr. Pavelka was one of the first leaders to bring Lean/Toyota manufacturing techniques into North American health care organizations. She is a five-time national Baldrige examiner, seven-year state examiner for the Iowa Baldrige program and a director-at-large for the National Association for Healthcare Quality Board. Dr. Pavelka holds degrees in biology and psychology from Luther College, an occupational therapy degree from Concordia University-Wisconsin, a masters in health care administration degree from Des Moines University and a doctoral degree from Walden University. 

Russell Perry, Iowa OSHA administrator, is a retired Army officer who worked full time with the Iowa National Guard for 31 years before joining the Iowa OSHA team in 2019. He held a variety of leadership positions with the National Guard including supervisory aircraft pilot, safety and occupational health manager, and director of Army aviation and safety. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Aviation Safety Officer’s course and holds a professional certification in safety and occupational health from the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Marycrest College and a master’s degree in public administration from Drake University.  

Kurt Kramer holds an associate degree in electronics and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Clarke University. He has worked in health care since 1996 as a biomedical technician and plant services manager before transitioning to IT manager. He has been with Waverly Health System since 2019. 

Heidi Solheim holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wartburg College and a master of business administration degree from Missouri State University. She has been with Waverly Health Center since 2004 as the director of community relations and transitioned to the chief operating officer. She has been chair and director for the hospital’s emergency management committee since 2012. 

Ryan Sundermann, M.D., graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 2003 and completed his residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He has been the medical director for the emergency department at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids since 2008 and has been involved in emergency preparedness. 

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION
The Iowa Board of Nursing has approved the Iowa Hospital Association as a provider (No. 4) of continuing education for nurses; Participants are eligible for 4.0 nursing contact hours if they attend all sessions in their entireties. Partial credit for individual sessions will not be granted. Participants can submit evaluations for this event to the Iowa Board of Nursing.
