Crisis Communication 101: How to Manage Crisis Communication in a Digital WorldThursday, October 31st10 a.m. - 11 a.m.PROGRAM OVERVIEWThis one-hour crisis communication webinar discusses the fundamentals of media and crisis communication in today’s media environment. Dan Corey, from Wixted, will begin by exploring the definition of a crisis versus an issue or controversy and the reasons crises gain so much attention. Health care leaders will learn how the media works, how it has evolved in recent years, and how the 24/7 news cycle changes the way a story is developed. We will examine the importance of audience analysis, the four phases of a crisis, and succinct message development during times of elevated stress. Other key learning elements include how to assemble an incident response team, the importance of gathering information, framing the event and managing the release of accurate information. As Communication Advisor and Trainer, Dan uses his mixed background and expertise to help clients engage with their audience and tell a great story. If there’s a job in television, Dan has probably done it: At stations across the Midwest, Dan has worked as a reporter, anchor, producer and photographer. Dan spent more than three years at KOLN-TV (Lincoln, NE), where he won awards as a sports reporter and anchor, including a Heartland Chapter Emmy Award and Best Sportscast from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association. Before joining Wixted, Dan worked as a Marketing, Media and Public Relations Specialist at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals in Lincoln, where he helped grow Madonna’s brand by focused attention on building relationships with both business leaders and media members. Dan did all the basics – including press releases, media pitches and message development – though he made his mark by filming inspiring patient stories and producing content for the hospital’s magazine. Dan is a graduate of Morningside College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. Nursing: 1.0 nursing contact hours will be awarded for this conference by IHA (Iowa Board of Nursing provider No. 4). Iowa nursing contact hours will not be issued unless your Iowa license number is provided on the certificate completed the day of the conference.
