PROGRAM OVERVIEW Hospitals and health systems always must be prepared top to bottom for a survey from CMS, the state survey agency, The Joint Commission or Det Norske Veritas. These surveys can occur for a variety of reasons including recertification, validation of deemed hospitals, complaint and abuse investigations, EMTALA investigations or self-reported events. Proper preparation can help hospitals avoid and minimize adverse findings during a governmental or accrediting organization survey. This online seminar will help hospitals prepare and manage these unannounced surveys. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Describe what the hospital or health system should do on notification of surveyors at the door. Discuss how to prepare front-line staff for surveyor questions and observations. Discuss methods of how to be your own watchdog. Review examples of how the hospital or health system can keep current on changes in regulations. INTENDED AUDIENCE CEOs. Chief medical officers. For nursing contact hours to be offered for individuals, IHA will verify your electronic virtual sign-in and sign-out times, and you must enter your nursing license number on the access registration page. If you are participating as part of a group, you must assign an on-site proctor to oversee the process required by the Iowa Board of Nursing and IHA. She also has more than 20 years of experience with the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals. Ruzicka holds master’s degrees in health law and business administration and a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, all from Drake University.
