IHA is joining with state hospital associations from across the country to provide four virtual presentations on leading topics in health care:

  • Chat GPT and the Future of AI in Health Care

The series is designed to help leaders create and generate successes within their teams, departments, and the organization. Session 1
Thursday, August 10 Noon - 1:00 p.m. CST

Chat GPT and the Future of AI in Health Care
Dr. Gurpreet Dhaliwal, M.D., International Speaker, Author, Huron

AI systems in health care are transforming the ways we communicate, collaborate, and generate revenue. To capitalize on this revolution, health systems need to rethink their data systems and readiness, clinician training and engagement, and ethical frameworks. Dr. Dhaliwal will address each of these and ask what comes next when AI makes us better, stronger, and faster.

Learning Objectives:

  • Cite an example of AI making humans smarter.
  • Name the seven stages of robot replacement.
  • Anticipate new skills and roles in an AI-enabled health system.

Session 2
Thursday, September 14 Noon - 1:00 p.m. CST

Servant Leadership - The Science of Serving Others
Dr. Anthony Mazzarelli, M.D., JD, MBE, National Speaker, Huron

Dr. Mazzarelli will discuss how being a giving, other-focused person is a secret superpower. Research shows that the best way to live your life is by serving others. Kinder people not only live longer, but they also live better. He helps attendees rethink the notions of “self-care” and “me time,” showing that focusing on others is a potent antidote to the weariness many of us feel. Dr. Mazzarelli extends his research on compassionate patient care to uncover how serving others reaches beyond medicine and can be a life-changing therapy for everyone. His message will convince and inspire people to make simple, purposeful shifts in mindset.

 Learning objectives:

  • Examine the role of positive psychology literature and its applicability to the workplace.
  • Learn the data behind the advice that people often give each other about how to treat one another.
  • Understand the personal and professional benefits of giving and focusing on others.

Session 3
Thursday, October 12 Noon - 1:00 p.m. CST

How to Have Difficult Conversations in Health Care
Pam Beitlich, DNP, ARNP, R.N., National Speaker, Huron

Coaching staff to higher levels of performance is one of the most important skill sets a leader must have. No one ever said leading was easy or comfortable, especially when a critical conversation needs to occur. This interactive session will provide practical strategies to help you become a more effective communicator and provide firsthand practice in conflict management.

 Learning objectives:

  • Articulate the patient safety communication challenges in health care.
  • Demonstrate setting expectations and delivering difficult messages.
  • Describe incivility in the workplace and its negative impacts.
  • List evidence-based benefits for building a culture of safety with effective communication.

Session 4
Thursday, November 9 Noon - 1:00 p.m. CST

Workforce Development - A Strategic Approach in Health Care
Holly Lorenz, DNP, R.N., National Speaker, Huron

Turbulent times call for responsive health care leaders. Flexibility as leaders is as important as flexibility for our workforce. Are you leading with norms that are no longer valued by the workforce? This session is focused on workforce (re)attraction and (re)engagement. Responding and adapting to change as new values and new employee expectations arise requires a change in thinking for leaders. Are you ready?

Learning objectives:

  • Uncover methods that respond to what your workforce values.
  • Understand what’s important to your workforce.
