Workplace Violence Webinar Series 10-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Feb. 12, Mar. 11, Apr. 8 PROGRAM OVERVIEW Workplace violence poses a significant challenge to the health care industry, affecting patient care and staff well-being. We will delve into the critical issue of workplace violence and its impact on preserving patient trust and empowering health care staff. We will explore the types of violence met in health care settings, including physical aggression, verbal abuse and harassment, and discuss the underlying causes and risk factors. We will also highlight proactive strategies, policies, and training programs to prevent and address workplace violence effectively. Escalation Awareness | 10-11 a.m. November 13, 2023 This session will address methods to improve situational awareness and recognize escalating behavior before violence occurs. Describe and detect signs of escalating behavior prior to violence. Develop protocols for responding to and de-escalating pre-violence behaviors. Mitigation Strategies | 10-11 a.m. December 11, 2023 This session will review strategies and practical methods to mitigate the impact of violence. This includes improvements to the physical environment, identification and response procedures. Discuss awareness of environmental and procedural mitigation strategies. Prevention Practices | 10-11 a.m. January 8, 2024 This session will focus on practical, realistic and effective protocols to prevent and deter violence. Describe realistic protocols to prevent and deter violence. Risk Evaluation and Gap Measurement | 10-11 a.m. February 12, 2024 This session will review methods to evaluate work environments for the risk of workplace violence, and track, analyze and evaluate the data. Learn deployable methods of evaluating the risk of workplace violence in different health care settings. Self Defense and Myths | 10-11 a.m. March 11, 2024 This session will review different training methods and their application to health care environments. Decide what training methods work for specific environments. Reducing Point-of-care Violence | 10-11 a.m. April 8, 2024 This session will describe protocols to deter and reduce violence at the bedside. Learn effective methods to reduce and prevent violence at the bedside. SPEAKER Michael Dunning established The Healthcare Security Consulting Group to help hospitals and other health care facilities create safer environments. Before starting his company, he was vice president of health care operations for the world’s largest security services company. Dunning was the subject-matter expert for health care security operations, supplying oversight for the security programs in more than 800 hospitals and 4,000 health care facilities in the United States and Canada. Dunning is a recognized security and emergency management expert with certifications from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, the Medical College of Georgia and the International Association for Emergency Managers. He holds an associate degree in law enforcement from The Community College of the Air Force, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in emergency management from Jacksonville State University. Dunning is a published author and recently published “Workplace Violence in Healthcare: An Evidenced-Based, Holistic Approach to Reducing Workplace Violence.” REGISTRATION AND FEES PER ORGANIZATION FOR SERIES Rate – $499 RECORDINGS POLICY IHA will provide recordings only to those who have registered for the program. CONTINUING EDUCATION POLICY IHA, Iowa Board of Nursing provider No. 4, will award 1.0 nursing contact hours for each webinar. If you are participating as part of a group, you must assign an on-site proctor to oversee the process required by the Iowa Board of Nursing and IHA.
