Swing-bed Fundamentals 10 a.m.-Noon; Tuesday, Nov. 8 PROGRAM OVERVIEW Hospitals with 100 or fewer licensed hospital beds are eligible to participate in the swing-bed program. Hospital beds can be used for an acute-care patient or a post-acute (skilled nursing) patient. This webinar describes the basic Medicare regulations to participate in the swing-bed program and explains the differences between the requirements for critical access and other rural hospitals. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Describe the regulatory requirements and related interpretative guidelines. Explain patient eligibility criteria for admission to the swing-bed program. Discuss the differences between the requirements for comprehensive assessment in a critical access hospital and rural hospital. SPEAKER Nancy Ruzicka is a consultant on state and federal rules, regulations and interpretative guidelines. Ruzicka previously worked as director of integrity and compliance and privacy official at MercyOne Des Moines and director of regulatory compliance at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines. She also has more than 20 years of experience with the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals. Ruzicka holds master’s degrees in health law and business administration and a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, all from Drake University.
