Keeping the Main Thing 'the Main Thing': Focus Your Board on the Right Things

PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

This session provides best practices to develop board expertise and agendas to ensure the board is focused on topics most relevant to organizational success. The presentation will utilize real-world examples to demonstrate board activities in different situations.  
 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

  • Describe board focus areas that will advance organizational goals. 

  • Discuss the ideal board agenda for the future. 

  • Identify criterion to help boards choose amongst competing topics for limited board meeting time.

SPEAKERS 

Susan Freed is a shareholder with Dentons Davis Brown Law Firm. With more than 20 years of experience representing health care providers and plans, Freed has a deep understanding of the health care industry. Freed helps health care providers and health plans operate successfully in a challenging regulatory and reimbursement landscape. 

Doug Morse Doug Morse is a former rural hospital CEO. He knows small hospitals and clinics are the health care and economic engines that drive the rural way of life. Today he helps leaders and Boards achieve exceptional scorecards and strong community support through 1:1 coaching, entrepreneurship training seminars and mission discernment processes for key decisions. The author of “You Got This: How to Make Big Decisions at Small Hospitals”, Doug was twice recognized as a college faculty Teacher of the Year, and years ago was recognized with the Iowa Hospital Association Young Executive Achievement Award.
