IHA Personal Membership Groups

IHA's Personal Membership Groups (PMGs) offer specialized learning and networking opportunities for a variety of hospital professionals. For more information about any of these organizations or to join, click on the group name below. General questions about the PMGs and registering for PMG conferences and other IHA events are addressed in this FAQ document.
PMG members should take advantage of the IHA Connect communities, which allow members to share group-specific questions and discussions. When joining a PMG, you are agreeing to the IHA Connect Rules. The Behavioral Health Affiliate of Iowa (BHAI) is the only statewide organization that focuses on the challenges you face as a hospital behavioral health professional. Membership to the BHAI provides:

The Foundation Professionals for Iowa Hospitals (FPIH) provides a forum and the opportunity for individuals involved with fundraising and foundations at Iowa hospitals to exchange information and ideas. Some benefits you will receive with an FPIH membership include:

This group is dedicated to meeting the needs of patients and communities by supporting hospital auxiliaries, volunteers and volunteer directors through education and networking. IHAV helps hospital auxiliary/volunteer members with recruitment, leadership, gift shop management and fundraising education. Although this group’s focus is education, IHAV members play a critical role in supporting Iowa with grassroots advocacy efforts and health care career scholarship promotion.

The Iowa Organization for Nursing Leadership's mission is to shape health care in Iowa through innovation, leadership expertise, professional development, education and advocacy. The organization engages nurse leaders across the broad continuum of nursing leadership and at every stage of their nursing careers, including emerging nurse leaders.

Nurse leaders influence, improve and advocate for the health of others through a variety of roles and settings. The nursing leadership role includes:

  • Executive leadership.
  • Clinical care management.
  • Staff education.
  • Development and engagement.
  • Case/Care management.
  • Information technology.
  • Academic appointment.
  • Quality and data analytics.
  • Bedside clinical experts.
  • Shift leadership.

The nurse leader role is defined by the actions, duties, responsibilities and accountabilities embodied in the role, rather than by a title. As the health care environment is evolving, so too is the role of the nurse leader in adapting and responding to those changes.

Iowa Rehabilitation Managers (IRM) Challenges faced in today’s marketplace for medical rehabilitation services can be overwhelming. IRM strives to serve rehab managers and directors by providing educational programs, access to others in the profession and a link to advocacy activities. IRM goals include:

  • Encourage the highest standard in medical rehabilitation care through the exchange of information.
  • Promote ideas for the advancement of sound rehab services.
  • Interface with related professionals and their organizations/facilities

ISHA is the only statewide organization that focuses health law issues important to attorneys representing hospitals and other health care providers. ISHA membership provides the following benefits:

  • Affordable continuing legal education events.
  • Networking with health lawyer peers.
  • Reduced admission fee to the ISHA Spring Conference—Iowa's only full-day CLE program tailored specifically for health law.
  • Free admission to the IHA Annual Meeting in Des Moines.
  • State and federal CLE offered at the IHA Annual Meeting.
  • Advocacy influence on health care law and policy concerns.

The Iowa Society for Healthcare Engineering is organized for educational purposes and is an individual membership organization affiliated with the Iowa Hospital Association. The organization’s objectives are:

  • Promote quality patient care through improved engineering practices.
  • Encourage members to develop in their knowledge of hospital engineering.
  • Promote the improvement of health care services by assisting members to exchange ideas as they relate to hospital engineering.
  • Conduct regular meetings, conferences and education programs.
  • Encourage membership involvement and support in national organizations.
  • Offer comment on proposed rules and regulations affecting the hospital engineering field.

This membership is only available to hospital members.

Recruiting and retaining a quality workforce is one of the biggest and most important challenges faced by Iowa hospitals. ISHHRA provides hospital human resource professionals continuous opportunities to advance their institutional and personal goals by learning from experts in the field, sharing ideas with colleagues and developing both professional and personal skills. ISHHRA’s objectives include:

  • Encouraging the highest standards of practice in hospital human resource administration.
  • Promoting the effective utilization of sound human resource management programs in the hospital field.
  • Rendering mutual assistance to members and stimulating an exchange of information concerning matters of human resource policies, practices and procedures.

Effective marketing and public relations are vital to the success of any hospital, and ISHMPR strives to serve hospital communications professionals and help them to promote their facilities. ISHMPR goals include:

Iowa Society for Hospital Preparedness and Emergency Managers (ISHPEM) is a statewide organization that leads the way for hospital preparedness and emergency management professionals to become more effective, valued, and credible leaders in their field. Membership to ISHPEM includes:
